Page design broken irreversibly
-
Dear community,
yesterday, we encountered a major, irreversible (?!) issue for the first time (and then multiple times again ever since):The problem:
We are running TheFox theme, with the WPBakery visual composer and WPML plugin for multilanguage support. From one moment to the next, the design of 2 pages was broken IRREVERSIBLY. The previews were fine, but the live versions didn’t have any backgrounds and space settings anymore (even though “vc_shortcodes-custom-css” with all the design settings was still included in the source code). The previews looked fine. In the editor, all settings appeared as usual – any further changes did not have any effect.
Trouble shoot:
1) the WordPress preview was working fine. The problem appeared only in the published live version.2) Duplicating the individual page seemed to work at first. But as soon as both language versions of the page were connected through WPML and set as the front page, the error occurred again (either for the English or Japanese page; always one or the other!).
3) The error occurred with both the previous and latest version of WPBakery page builder. In the source code of the page, there’s a CSS “vc_shortcodes-custom-css”. Here, most of the background colors/images and spaces are set. Even when the live page was broken, this CSS was visible in its source code (but it did not have any effect obviously).
4) The error affected ONLY the front page and one page under “services” (even though that page had not been edited). All other pages were fine.
5) Reversing the latest edits and even restoring the page through the revisions/history feature did NOT solve the error.
6) The only solution that worked was restoring an older backup of the whole website. (After that, the error occurred 2 more times, so we had to restore the backup 3 times altogether!)
So, what have I been doing that might have caused the error?
– Right before the error occurred, I have changed the background image of one row and changed the appearance animation of 4 columns (of the affected front page). I made those changes on both language pages. Now I am anxious about making any further edits or updates on the website, but of course, I will have to, eventually.
Does anybody have an idea what’s causing this problem? Is there anything else I can try?
Best,
