    Hello good people.

I have set my custom post types to Hierarchical = True, but yet, I don’t get the Page Attribute Parent Page in the WP admin area, to add a parent / child page

However, it is enabled in my theme, I can see it on standard pages.

Please can someone point me towards what I am doing wrong?

    Kind Regards
    Vince

Are you trying with only 1 post? Cause the option to select a parent won’t show up until you have at least 2 posts in the post type.

Thanks Michael. I actually did, but because I was developing, I set the pages to private, and it was changing the private to published that made the difference. Going to ask a new question now about how to make this child a post of a different custom post type. You see I have airfields as one post type, and I want “events” at those airfields to be children of the “airfield” in question.

The standard UI, for all I’ve ever seen, doesn’t allow parent/child relations between post types, which in general makes sense to me.

However, I also know that in the database, the only part that denotes a post parent is a single column in the wp_posts table, that simply takes the post ID value. Also, I know that internally, WordPress kind of does this on their own with media attachments. I’m sure they consider that a special case though.

So, it’d take some custom coding to somehow still make those associations. Alternatively I know there’s plugins like https://wordpress.org/plugins/posts-to-posts/ despite it’s not updated since timestamp, that could offer similar solutions.

Thanks for that Michael, but the plugin looks over complicated to use, and would be a huge learning curve, and yet it hasn’t been tested with the LAST 3 major releases of WP.

Understandable hesitation. Beyond that, I don’t have any readymade solutions/code to provide for cross-post type hierarchy.
