Support » Fixing WordPress » Page as Sidebar Link

  • I am using 3.3.2 and TwentyEleven.

I have used WP as a simple blog until now. I need to shift a larger website to this format, going forward.

As websites are, you have links on your index page that lead to other pages.

I need to re-create a lot of pages of information, solely to be used as links on the sidebar and not appear on the top menu bar. I seem to be unable to create a page without it appearing at the top, instead of linking to it. Other than creating the page in a post and then being lost to the archives, is there another way to do this – create a page and have it’s link in a “text box” which I can manually create a link?

    Thanks.

  • Try creating a custom menu for your top nav and then use the Pages widget in Appearance-> widgets for your sidebar.

I will certainly try that. Did not know that was doable. Thank you.

Thinking about it some more, there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t also add another custom menu to your sidebar via the Custom Menu widget in Appearance->Widgets. That way, you can control exactly what Pages are listed and how.

I’ll get back to you. I’m not having much success, but I haven’t tried it all.

Putting two page widgets in the sidebars, just gives me to top menu entries.

I can make the custom menu, but I’m doing something wrong. I still wind up with the top menu on the top and on the sidebar.

I have discovered a plugin called Exclude Pages which seems to accomplish what I am looking for. I have not fully kicked the tires, but the first test resulted in the solution I was looking for.

    Thank you for your help.
