Hi! I like the plugin, but I’m having a big issue with padding and margin settings. Right now I’m developing on localhost, and the issue I’m having is every time I refresh or re-open a page editor with the section block, all padding and margin settings are reset to default. It doesn’t seem to matter how I set them, they always reset to 20px. Thoughts? Am I missing something? Thanks!

    Hey there,

By default the padding and margin are 20px. You can change it from the Inspector sidebar in Gutenberg.

Are you not able to change them? Let me know.

I can change them and the changes take effect when I hit update, but when I reload the page edit screen, or open the page in editor again after saving changes (leave the editor, and re-enter from any link), the padding and margins for all items are reset to 20px and my changes are lost. It looks like the defaults are overwriting changes on admin page editor reload.

I should add, I don’t think it’s a plugin conflict either. I tried it with all plugins disabled and got the same results.

That’s weird. Can you try on https://jurassic.ninja and try to reproduce this issue for us? Thank you.

Yes, done and done. Exact same issue. Zero plugins installed (including jetpack). I took a movie of my screen so you can see exactly what’s happening.

@tonykuehn Yikes, that’s a weird one. You can see this video where I’ve explained how it will work: https://www.loom.com/share/640de173b77844e08f5e187add58d0c0

It seems to be a bug and we will fix it completely in the next release, and until it’s fixed you can see the video to know how to overcome this issue.

Thank you for reporting this to us! πŸ™‚

Hmmm, I’m running the latest version of Otterblocks, and have tried adjusting the margin to 0 in the slider, but am still getting a top margin of 20px that overrides and resets each time. Any other solutions?

@rodsalm For the sake of testing, can you make it 1px and see if that works?

I noticed this as well. If the values for padding or margin are set to 0, then defaults are used (20px) instead. This applies both to linked and un-linked values. If I set them to 1, then the input is respected, so it’s clearly an issue with how ‘0’ input is being handled.

    Hey @tonykuehn,

Got it! We are pushing a release this weekend, so once that is done we can start working on this. In the next (one after this week), we will also introduce some way to have a global default so you won’t have to set padding/margin everytime you add a block.

We’ve released it’s the most painful point of all the users when using Section block.

    What do you think? πŸ™‚
