    I want to modify the color of the tagline in Oxygen. I edited the Stylesheet (style.css) and changed “color: #fff” to the color I want:

    #site-description {
    font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
    font-size: 0.9166666666666667em; /* 11 / 12 = 0.9166666666666667 */
    font-weight: normal;
    line-height: 1.5em;
    margin-bottom: 20px;
    color: #D71F1F;
    float: left;
    width: 91.48936170212766%;
    clear: both;
    }

    I then updated the file and went to “Visit site”. Unfortunately, I do not see any change in the color. What am I missing?

    Thank you,
    Paul
    PS: the webpage is wegwert.com.

  • Paul,

    Your site is taking the styles from style.min.css, you should change the color in #site-description on that file to make it work.

    I hope I have been helpful!!

    Hernan

    Hernan:

    Thank you! That did it.

    Hi. I’m a major-league green-horn! Do I have a similar problem? I am trying to change the backgrund coluor of the menu in the sidebar from black to pale grey. If I edit the colour value in the menu-secondary and menu-secondary li sections it doesn’t seem t change the site. I’m assuming it’s possible to edit the CSS direct from WP-admin…?

    Susan

    Hi Susan,
    Yes It’s possible to change it from wp-admin, but it’s not the best way, to change that you have to find the CSS selector in the style.min.css file (from dashboard or using a FTP and Code Editor software), and change the values there. Remember that the best way to customize a theme is to work in a child theme (in order to be able to update the original theme).

    Hernan:

    Well, I am not out of the woods either when is about customizing the style.min.css file.

    I am using Safari with Web Inspector. Is this an option similar to using FTP and a Code Editor software?

    Thank you,
    Paul

    Paul,
    You are doing it Right, using Safari and Web Inspector to find which is the CSS line that you have to change or modify. Once you find it…

    You can modify using the Dashboard>Apparence>Editor, looking for the file and changing and saving the changes in there… But this is not recommendable because if something goes wrong you can break your WordPress. If you are modifing just .css files it wont be a problem cause it will be just style, but if you modify .php files and something goes wrong maybe you will have an issue there.

    So.. the recommendable way is to find a Ftp software to download and upload your files to your server (I always used Filezilla) and to modify the files you can use any Code Editor Software like (notepad++ or SublimeText Editor).

    Regards,
    Hernán

    Hernan:

    Thank you for your reply and suggestions.

    I have a hard time identifying what part of the style.min.css files controls what I want to change. To be more specific, I want to modify the color of the page title. Using Web Inspector, when I click on the page title, I see h1.page-title.entry-title 470px x 37 px. From this, I assumed that h1 is probably related to the page title. I then searched the style.min.css file for h1. I found it in 3 places:

    (1) h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6{font-family:’Abel’,’Helvetica Neue’,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;margin:0 0 15px 0;color:#000000;line-height:1.3em}

    (2) h1{font-size:3em}

    (3) .hfeed h1,.hfeed h2,.hfeed h3,.hfeed h4,.hfeed h5,.hfeed h6{font-weight:normal}

    Just to check that I am going in the right direction, I modified the second occurrence of h1 to be “h1{font-size:5em}” and updated the style.min.css file. Unfortunately, I cannot see a change in the title of the page.

    What am I missing?

    Thank you,
    Paul

    Paul, if you want to change the color of the Home Page Title…
    you have to find:

    #site-title a{color:#222;border-bottom:none}

    and change de Color Value.

    Hernán

    Hernan, I found the #site-title a{color:#222;border-bottom:none} and changed it to #site-title a{color:#000000;border-bottom:none}, I then updated the style.min.css file but I still cannot see any change 🙁

    I was sure that it will work, but not yet…

    My website is wegwert.com.

    Thank you,
    Paul

    Paul,
    In your site, the title is not linkabel and the correct css selector to modify it is

    .singular-page .entry-title{color:#ccc}

    replace the #ccc for #000000 and it will be fine,

    Thanks

    Hernán

    Hernan, this did it!!! Thank you very much. Paul
