Override widget php

    I’m wanting to override the ../includes/widget.php file for some simple styling. I’ve created an event-list dir with an includes dir inside and put the widget.php file inside, but my styling changes only work in the original plugin file. Of course I’ve cleared my browser cache. Not sure what else I can do?
