Override thumbnail/featured image in child theme?

  • I am loving Mantra and how easy it has made setting up a new site with lots of configurable options.

One thing I would like to do is use the “Taxonomy Images’ plugin to have icons tied to categories/tags/etc.. And then, if a post doesn’t have a featured image set I would like to drop in the associated taxonomy image in a hierarchy I would set.

I have the code to do this, but am wondering if there is a clean way in a child theme to override a function like mantra_set_featured_thumb() or maybe is it enough to add/change the filter set: add_filter( ‘post_thumbnail_html’, ‘mantra_thumbnail_link’, 10, 3 ); ??

Thanks for any feedback. I apologize if this is obvious and I missed it or an over-thinking it. 🙂
