Support » Plugin: Easy Digital Downloads » Outrageous amount to have to spend to create a marketplace

  • I guess b/c there’s not much competition, EDD thinks they can charge whatever they want and people will be forced to pay it. Maybe they’re right. But to make a digital marketplace w/ EDD will cost you anywhere from $500-900 (for the All Access Pass). Now, if you’re a business with funding, this is likely nothing. If you’re an individual getting started, it’s a lot. Somebody please tell me how they justify $200 for front-end submission?? Seriously? Considering the average price of a plugin on Code Canyon, even the powerful Visual Composer and VC Ultimate Add Ons only run around $25-35, it’s ridiculous to pay hundreds of dollars just for simple additional functionality of a core plugin. Comes across as so greedy, especially when WP is built on open source. Will try out WooCommerce first as I’m so disgusted by the extortion of EDD. You guys really need to rethink your pricing structure and make it affordable for small users with limited budgets.

Thank you for your genuine feedback! While we’re never happy to hear someone is disappointed with EDD, this kind of feedback is immensely valuable.

Our pricing has evolved overtime and is today a reflection of the actual value that EDD and its extensions provides. If you’re interested in learning the history of the pricing, I’ve written about it extensively over the last 5 years on my personal site: https://pippinsplugins.com/blog/

    Cheers!
