    hi there,
I am the founder and editor of ScreenComment, a wordpress.org website about cinema. We’re an american site but we review international cinema as well as studio and indies.
Let us know what you think… your feedback would be very much appreciated.

I worked with a webdev last May, the prep stage took a long time as I decided to design my own site and there was a lot of back and forth between me and her on the finer points of the site’s esthetics and navigation. In the end, I’m unhappy with it.

But I’m happy with the site’s brand, our message, our mission, and I work very hard at developing traffic on it (a challenge, especially for someone who’s not a natural at it).

    Thanks for reading

I’m a little confused about whether you are unhappy with this site — or with another site that your developer did somewhere else. But either way, I think it’s very well done except for the obnoxious advertisements in the header. I find that a total turnoff. To make it worse, the ads load a lot faster than the logo or the rest of the page — so when users first land on the page, they only see ads. I’d rethink that strategy.

    thanks for your response,

sorry for what turns out to be a confused inquiry from me.. I should’ve worded it differently.

The web developer is ace, she held up her part of the bargain magnificently, building the site from the ground up based on my specifications but also making recommendations along the way to keep things optimized and exhibiting a commitment level that was extremely impressive (She was recommended to me by someone close and I count myself lucky that I got this referral. I couldn’t have found a better professional to work with than her.)

Recently, I started to notice that I should’ve done things differently, not picked the blue frame and the black for the menu, for example. Visually and esthetically speaking (and these were my areas of responsibility during the web-development phase) the site could be better; I want to change the color scheme, freshen things up. It will be part of the next redesign phase, I guess.

I’m also unhappy with the logo that I chose, which is the result of a 99designs contest I paid and ran online just before launch. I see that as a failure on my part and that’s probably the biggest unhappiness.

In the end, I’m unhappy with myself for not having made the best design decisions, that’s all, knowing that it will keep on getting better in the future. But I forgive myself, too, knowing that I’m no expert in the area of web designing and I probably did the best I could.

Fortunately, I have a web-development partner who’s kept the project on course and implemented a highly functional, highly optimized website which can go on living on the internet for many years to come.

As far as the ad banner, it was modeled on other sites in my industry segment. I don’t think they’re obnoxious, most sites and blog have them.

    Thanks again,

    Ali
