 * Hello,
 * I have only used plugins that are accessible from [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/)
 * I think of these plugins as basically “safe” since they are reviewed by the wordpress
   community.
 * I have not used any other plugins to date. Do you feel that these “other” plugins
   pose any more of a threat to one’s website than those accessible from wordpress.
   org?
 * Thanks for you replies.
 * Lane

 * _I think of these plugins as basically “safe” since they are reviewed by the
   wordpress community._
 * My most popular plugin, wp-chunk, has been downloaded 4393 times; the permalink
   for it has 287 pingbacks and 80 comments.
 * It been reviewed by the WordPress community, I think. 🙂
 * You raise a good point, but I would stop short of suggesting that plugins hosted
   on wordpress.org undergo any more vetting than plugins hosted elsewhere.
 * The “good advice” is that you ought to look through what you are on putting on
   your site, regardless of where you download it from.

 * I don’t think any plugin hosted at the Extend is “reviewed” by anybody… (although
   I might be wrong)
 * On the other hand, I know of quite a lof of plugins that are not hosted there
   but were written by well-known, knowledgeable, trustworthy members of this support
   community.
    It’s a bit of a common sense thing (like everyhting else). If you
   find a plugin elsewhere, read carefully the comments on it, search the forum
   about it, ask questions…
