Support » Plugin: WP Document Revisions » Other Authors cannot edit Documents of other Authors

  • I installed this plugin this weekend on my existing WorkPress site that was recently upgraded to the Business plan and was testing the plugin. On this site I have various people in the Author role. A text document as added from one of the Authors. I can go back and see the document listed and the Edit button is availble to “checkout” and edit. The document was Private.

    When I logged out and logged in as another user with the Author role and the document created from the other user was not listed. I logged out and back in to the first user and changed to Public. Logged back in again as the second user and the document is now listed but with only a View button.

    What do I need to configure to get a document added by one user to be accessible for editing from the Dashboard of another user? I could not find anything about this in the documentation. It appeared from videos about this plugin is that should have happened without further configuration. Sorry about the newbie question but any help would be appreciated.

  • The author has these capabilities by default:

    			'author' =>
    			array(
    				'edit_documents'             => true,
    				'edit_others_documents'      => false,
    				'edit_private_documents'     => false,
    				'edit_published_documents'   => true,
    				'read_documents'             => true,
    				'read_document_revisions'    => true,
    				'read_private_documents'     => false,
    				'delete_documents'           => true,
    				'delete_others_documents'    => false,
    				'delete_private_documents'   => false,
    				'delete_published_documents' => true,
    				'publish_documents'          => true,
    				'override_document_lock'     => false,
    			),

    So an author cannot edit_others_documents – which is the capability required.

    The Editor role would have this capability by default.

    The capabilities defined are mainly standard “custom type” capabilities.

    HTH,
    Neil
