  • I need new photo gallery software. I’ve been using Gallery, but am fed up with it! Just did an upgrade and now can’t access any of the photos! It’s a clunky piece of software anyway and the markup is horrible anyways (tables everywhere!). Does anyone know a good piece of PHP software to run a photogallery? I don’t mean a photoblog either…I want something to manage albums, etc. I’d prefer something that creates valid XHTML and is configurable.
    Thanks in advance!

I’m tired of throwing my pictures away into Gallery. I saw someone had something with WP where there was a large thumbnail on the front page of a blog post and then in the extended entry it had all the thumbnails that linked to the photo on its own page, which is pretty much how Gallery works. Does anyone else remember seeing this?

Does PictPress make it easy to edit the gallery after it’s in there? It seems like it just makes it easier to add a batch of paged images to a post.
    Have you looked at this?

Photostack has an admin interface that lets you upload and change descriptions etc without ftp or text files, you should install it and try it out – the docs are a bit out of date.

I’ve installed Photostack and I really like it. It’s so easy to use, but I need an additional field besides the description. In photostack, the description is meant to work as a title. I need both title and description. If I could get both from photostack, I would be sold on it completely.

Well, I was answering allusion’s question. But Pictpress is simple and well-integrated into WP. It’s slightly different than Exhibit where Exhibit doesn’t redisplay the images into your WP template. Instead, it just pops up a window. Whatever floats your boat.

PictPress output looks really nice, I’ll have to dig into the code.

I use photostack on alongside wordpress. It’s pretty easy to adjust the templates, and you only need to list the files in a text file if you want them to have captions/rollover text. And you don’t have to do it manually, there’s an admin function for it that’s easy to use.

Oh, I was able to work around photostack by designating a textfile as my image description. The templates allow php so I threw in some code to extract the content from the textfile to get my image title and description. It is a workaround for now. Maybe at another time I’ll come up with something better.

Pictorialis II, another LaughingLizard product, is in development as we speak, and it is a photogallery.

My vote goes to Exhibit – it is the best (simplest and most elegant) gallery plugin for WP so far!

As NuclearMoose suggested, please check out Pictorialis II

Very awesome!! I can’t wait to get my hands on this!

As I understand it, Pictoralis is a full-on WordPress alteration — It’s not just a plug-in, it’s an evolved program. So if you want it to work with your existing WP blog, you basically have to install an additional WP instance, but with the added Pictoralis source, and then link to it from your existing blog.
    Have I got this right?
