I had over 30 yesterday and started to manually link them again.
I always keep up with them so I was surprised to see this happen.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @lisapats12,

    Thank you for reaching out!

We would like to have a bit more information. We understand that the amount of orphaned content was higher than before.

Did you update any plugin, theme, or WordPress itself before this number changed? We ask since they might affect us scanning your content and links within that content. Additionally, do you write your posts and pages in the default WordPress editor (also known as the block editor) or do you use any other 3rd party page builder?

Hmm, not that I know of. But I did use block editor on a page.

    Hi @lisapats12,

Can you check under SEO > Tools to see if Yoast SEO has scanned the text links on your site? You should see green checkmarks under SEO Data and Text Link Counter. If not, please click the buttons under this section to allow Yoast SEO to analyze your site.

Also, can you check the orphaned pages and see if there are any pages that shouldn’t be listed? Yoast SEO marks a post as orphaned if you have not added any internal links to it from another page in your site. The internal links must be added manually in the WordPress editor to be counted.

Our site is having the same issue as lisapats. We keep up on orphaned content at least once per week. After the latest Yoast update, we went from maybe 1-2 posts listed as orphaned to over 50+.

I’ve gone through some of those listed and the posts actually do have internal links on other posts. When I tap the button to update a post that links to “orphaned” posts, then that post no longer shows up as orphaned–even though I did not change anything on either post–all I did was press the button to update it.

I’d rather not have to go through all those posts listed as orphaned…

I did follow the direction and used the Text Link Counter tool–it recognized 144 links but it did not change the number of posts listed as orphaned.

The only plugin updated was Yoast and we use the Classic editor.

Thank you, Amanda, same here! Glad to know it was NOT just me. I too use the classic editor most of the time. Maybe that’s it?

Could be. Let’s see if Yoast chimes in on this one.

    Hi @lisapats12 and @amandawhit,

Thanks for getting back to us. We’ve already received a few reports of similar issues related to internal linking and the orphaned post count, so we are looking into this.

You can comment or subscribe to follow this issue on GitHub here: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/15987.

    Thanks for the update Priscilla!
