    Hello!

I would like to report a problem I’m facing. After installing the plugin, I clicked the Start Analysing button and after, the following got reported:

Original files: 0 files (0.00 MB)
Thumbnail files: 19907 files (965.03 MB)
    Total file size: 965.03 MB

I want to clear the thumbnails so I can backup only the original files, but after the analysis I’m a bit wary of continuing the process.

Is there something that can be done?

    Thank you,
    Arky

  • Hi

I read this review… and I agree with with you and if this guy have his own super fast VPS dedicated server, it shoudn’t be a probleme for him to open a terminal window to run a command like: find . -name *-*x*.jpg | xargs rm -f

A long time ago I also created a free joomla extension and it was a not a good experience because of people like that. Sometime they forget that it’s free and developped the night and the weekend…

I was not aware that it will not work with thousand of images, so I’ll wait for your new Ajax based version because I have about 5000 images… 🙂

And you know what? make it work perfectly and do a paid version! yes… > Free for 1000 images, paid for more than 1000 images 🙂

It’s a matter of practice makes perfect.
You can be an expert in RegEx and PHP anytime after going through lots of experimentation and development.
I believe you can be one sooner and not later.
Also, I don’t feel that you’re rude, but somewhat impatient. So, take it easy …

There are always nasty people in this world. Just take it with a pinch of salt. If such people complain so much, ask them for suggestions on how to improve your plugin. If they can’t, just ignore them. Don’t let them drag you down unnecessarily. Surround yourself with positive people who wants to genuinely contribute and help improve your plugin(s).

I’ve been with the WordPress community since 2009, and I’m fortunate to have met lots of wonderful and helpful people. We assist each other, which makes it worth our time and effort in improving WordPress and its plugins.

Very well said, @eljkmw. I could tell that you’ve been with the WordPress community for some time. Otherwise, you wouldn’t understand the ideology behind it which you summarised greatly in your post.

However, I do have a problem with ungrateful people who expect that everything on the internet is for free and works without the slightest bug. I’m happy building plugins and giving support to the ones that use my plugins, and I try to do so as much as I can. I don’t even expect a “thank you”, I’d just like the users to know that the vast majority of the plugins and themes hosted in WordPress’ repository have been done as a hobby in their free time.

That doesn’t mean that they’re not allowed to give a negative review, but when they do this, I wish they’d take this into account and don’t get furious when something doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. Fortunately, most users within the WordPress community don’t behave like that and even spend their own time to help me improve my plugins. I’m very grateful for any suggestions, improvements, bug reports and anything else that could make my plugins better.

    Hello @thaikolja

I would like to know is there a chance to have this pretty ajaw new version before the end of july? Because I have a migration to do in august.

I would totaly understand that you do not have the time fot that, but just say to me 🙂

    thanks

i am having the same problem original file is ZERO, the plugin was able to get 100k thumbnails however Managewp said i have 400,000 files.

    Hi @pako69,

Sorry, I probably won’t make it this month, I’m pretty swamped right now. But I’ll implement it as soon as I can, I promise 😉

@iamkingsleyf: I’m not so much familiar with ManageWP, but I could imagine that it counts all your uploads. Thumbnail Cleaner only counts – as the name already says – thumbnails. By the way, 400,000 uploads is quite a lot. What kind of website do you have if I may ask?

    @iamkingsleyf
Are you managing multi WP sites?

100k thumbnails is indeed a huge number. I can only guess that your original images are huge in size, and one may produce 10 different size variations (for easy calculation). This means you’ve probably uploaded 10k original images, and managing at least 2 multisites since you’d mentioned that you’ve had uploaded 5k.

How does ManageWP count the number of files? I’m unsure whether non-image files were included. I too am unfamiliar with ManageWP, and cannot comment much about it.

@eljkmw i have the fix file.
@thaikolja its a blog with magazine theme.
@eljkmw i have uploaded 5k images, somehow the theme has multiplied it, because i used force regenerate thumbnails (during the process it showed delete xxxx, xxxx, xxxx (5) regenerated xxxx, xxxx, xxxx, xxxx, xxxx, xxxx (10).

since managedwp backup is based on the amount of files (per site) i guess i have to move, easier than updating 2,000 articles with images

hi @thaikolja where i can find the fixed file ? because your site is under maintenance.. please can you upload in other site like google drive or github..

    @drtheme,

I haven’t worked on this plugin for some time, so I can’t really tell quick version contains what. I have a 1.5.0beta floating around my files. I’ve just tested it and it seems fine. BUT: Before you test, backup!
