# [Pugin Order Posts] is obsolete. Any alternatives?

 * Hiya,
 * OK, so I’m making a portfolio based site with posts as the portfolio items. It
   works well in most cases. However I’ve just hit a snag…
 * I want to be able to order the posts (portfolio items) with the best work first,
   and not necessarily in chronological/alphabetical/etc order. WordPress obviously
   isn’t able to decide for itself which is best so either I add a number as a custom
   field to each representing my preferred order and sort by that, or I find a nice
   plugin which allows me to visually move posts up and down the list. The second
   route is preferred by me as the number thing could get complicate as I move things
   around, plus of course it’s just plain easier to do it visually!
 * Anyway, so I found this plugin:

 * Which does exactly what I want I think, only it doesn’t actually seem to work.
   Is it just me? Has anyone else had any luck with this one? Anyone got any suggestions
   of other similar plugins?

 * That plugin is referring to the `post2cat` table that was converted to the terms
   taxonomy structure with the release of 2.3.

 * That explains why that plugin refuses to work at least! wp-smart-sort looks like
   a good plugin to use with a manually entered custom field, so thanks for that,
   i’ll implement that for now, but if anyone knows of a plugin that allows a GUI
   reordering of posts (much like you can do with reordering images in the nextgen-
   gallery plugin) then I’d be forever in your debt.
 * I might even try writing my own one in the future. But I’ve a lot of learning
   to do first I suspect.

 * If you do that, take the Order Posts and fix the code, call it Order Posts Reloaded
   and submit it to the plugins directory!

 * Smartsort – at least the freeware version – seems to be working now, at least
   on a test sit on which I installed it. It previously didn’t work on the same 
   site. I don’t think the code has been updated so does anyone have any idea what
   has changed? Could a change to Mysql have affected it?
