Looking to develop an option in WordPress for admins where they can check a box in the header to change all products pages(Woocommerce) to a totally different product page template – yet to be developed.
The page will be a much simpler display option and will include stuff the customer never needs to see – we’ll be printing labels from it and completing a form etc.

Any thoughts or ideas how we would do this? Is it possible/sensible?

I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

It’s not really about woocommerce though is it? It is finding a way to turn on an optional page template for admins. We are applying it to Woocommerce, but could be used anywhere.

I’m not familiar about this “optional page template for admins”.

Hope someone familiar with it can chime in.

Kind of obvious you are not familiar with it… we are wanting to develop it – therefore it doesnt already exist.
No idea how someone familiar with something that hasn’t been invented (to my knowledge) can chime in.
I guess my only hope now that you have made answers is to delete this post and open a new one – because as you well know, a post with replies already is less likely to get further helpful attention.
Do moderators get some kind of kudos for answering posts quickly? Is that the motivation for quickly redirecting me elsewhere when you have no idea what I am talking about?

@ajamm Don’t create multiple topics for the same thing. I have archived your newer one.

This is not a Developing with WordPress topic and I’ve moved it to Fixing WordPress. There’s no code here, this is an ask from you that may be sorted out with a plugin.

    Also?

Do moderators get some kind of kudos for answering posts quickly? Is that the motivation for quickly redirecting me elsewhere when you have no idea what I am talking about?

We’re all volunteers. While you may think it’s appropriate to poke at us, don’t. It’s not.

If you need to contact the moderators about this then you can do so via the Slack #forums channel.

To use that channel you need a Slack account. You can obtain one via these instructions.

Thanks Jan, I get that about moderators. I’m a community volunteer moderator elsewhere.
    Apologies for any offence.

This is not fixing WordPress though is it? WordPress is not broken in this instance at all. It isnt a problem encountered – it is about extending WordPress. It also is not about me asking for a plugin – unless of course you are aware of a plugin that does what I am asking… then it can be about a plugin 🙂
Is this possible in a plugin? (Everything is possible in a plugin I guess!)

There is no code because I am asking advise before I start making changes – whether that be in a theme, or a plugin, or in core.

I figured I can do this by using a theme switcher and modifying the template in the other theme.
