• Hi,

I’ve been using this plugin to keep out accesses to my website from some countries whose spam/hack rate is far higher than their rate of human visitors. On the other hand, it’s very drastic to block the frontend completely and I feel bad for denying regular visitors access on the account of some compatriots being criminals. I was wondering if there could be built in a way for humans to prove their humanity, e.g. by means of a captcha or a random riddle task, of course only once per session.

  • Hi Carbeck, I asked about this exact thing a while back in another post here. It’s really needed. Country blocking is ESSENTIAL these days if you get on the spammer lists and don’t want to end up paying for high-bandwidth hosting due to spammer and scraper attacks. Country blocking probably saves me $800/year in server upgrade costs.

A random riddle is my favorite, with the website admin able to create the questions and answers. I use a riddle system on my site to block spammers and it’s incredibly effective.

So, here is another vote for an “are you human?” automatic white lister option in the otherwise excellent IQ Block Country plugin. And again, I’d vote for a riddle, not a captcha.

Another good thing about riddle/quiz systems is they can be used to block spam “sweatshops” in places such as India, where they pay human spammers pennies to sit there and easily bypass captcha systems, but have much more trouble with quiz questions that are not in their native language and might ask something based on the subject of the website.

It is an excellent feature request. I just need time 🙂

Just to make it more complex (grin), it would be wonderful to have the “challenge quiz” toggle on and off per each blocked country. MTN
