Support » Plugin: WP Super Cache » Optimizing using WPSuperCache issue

  • I have been locked out of my website twice in as many months – for different reasons that I admit I don;t understand. I am trying. I was given a help file by Bluehost telling me how to OPTIMIZE my site.

Sorry to sound so vague. I am a 56 yo author with a new release out in 4 weeks. This could not be a worse time (of course). Any help appreciated.

I can do every step except this one….
    Step 2. Set Mod_Rewrite Rules

Scroll down and select “Update Mod_Rewrite Rules” in the yellow box.

The yellow box says this, but I have no idea what it means.

    Cannot update .htaccess

The file /home6/public_html/.htaccess cannot be modified by the web server. Please correct this using the chmod command or your ftp client.

Alternatively, you can edit your /public_html/.htaccess file manually and add the following code (before any WordPress rules):

    # BEGIN WPSuperCache
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
#If you serve pages from behind a proxy you may want to change ‘RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on’ to something more sensible
    AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} !POST
    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !.*=.*
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:Cookie} !^.*(comment_author_|wordpress_logged_in|wp-postpass_).*$
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Wap-Profile} !^[a-z0-9\”]+ [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:Profile} !^[a-z0-9\”]+ [NC]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP:Accept-Encoding} gzip
    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
    RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/wp-content/cache/supercache/%{SERVER_NAME}/$1/index-https.html.gz -f
    RewriteRule ^(.*) “/wp-content/cache/supercache/%{SERVER_NAME}/$1/index-https.html.gz” [L]
