I want to migrate from All In One SEO (AISEO) to Yoast to have better structured results. However, the migration tool is not functioning due to a bug: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/16518

I decided to do the migration without waiting for the bug to be resolved. The only hard-to-transfer data is meta descriptions and we will sort them out. So I downloaded Yoast and clicked “Optimize SEO Data”. I got this message afterwards:
“Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn’t complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.

Below are the technical details for the error. See this page for a more detailed explanation.”

    Explanations include:
“<div class=”wp-die-message”><p>There has been a critical error on this website.</p><p>Learn more about debugging in WordPress.</p></div><script defer src=”https://static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js&#8221; data-cf-beacon='{“rayId”:”68993a667c461762″,”version”:”2021.8.1″,”r”:1,”token”:”27869e02d5e4454ea48dfd419ff59d8f”,”si”:10}’></script>

When I retry, I get the same error again. How can I fix this issue?

    Thank you,

Could you please try running the optimization by deactivating all non-Yoast plugins and the default TwentyTwenty theme active?

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

Sometimes issue may persist even in troubleshooting mode. If so, try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin.
    2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
    3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button.
    4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “SEO Data Optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your pages.

For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating, or removing plugins. Learn more about the benefits of regular backups.

I deactived all plugins except Yoast and switched to TwentyTwenty theme. When I click “Optimize SEO Data”, I get this message:

“Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn’t complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.

Below are the technical details for the error. See this page for a more detailed explanation.

When I try “Optimize SEO Data” again, I get the same message.

I followed the steps that you mentioned regarding “Yoast Test Helper”. At the end, I get exactly the same error message:
“Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn’t complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.

Below are the technical details for the error. See this page for a more detailed explanation.

    @cemdilmegani Thanks for your reply.

We checked on your site https://betatest.aimultiple.com/ and it appears that the site is using WordPress version 5.6.2. In order to run the current version of the Yoast SEO plugin it requires that WordPress either be version 5.7 or 5.8 so to run the plugin you would need to upgrade WordPress to one of those version. We also have more information on this here: Supporting older versions of WordPress.

Can you please first confirm you are using WordPress 5.8? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: Why we don’t support old WordPress versions.

If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast SEO, does this resolve the issue with the SEO data optimization not completing successfully?

    Hi there,

Now it is upgraded to 5.8.
When I clicked “Optimize SEO Data”, I got this message again “<div class=”wp-die-message”><p>There has been a critical error on this website.</p><p>Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.</p></div><script defer src=”https://static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js&#8221; data-cf-beacon='{“rayId”:”68a0c1a36e1edff3″,”version”:”2021.8.1″,”r”:1,”token”:”27869e02d5e4454ea48dfd419ff59d8f”,”si”:10}’></script>

I also used “Yoast Test Helper” to “Reset Indexables tables & migrations” and clicked “Optimize SEO Data” and got the same message.

Then, I deactivated all other plugins and changed the theme to Twenty Twenty. Now I got this error when I clicked “Optimize SEO Data”:

Oops, something has gone wrong and we couldn't complete the optimization of your SEO data. Please click the button again to re-start the process.

@cemdilmegani We’re sorry to hear you are still experiencing this issue.

If you manually reinstall the Yoast SEO plugin, reset the indexables using the Yoast Test Helper plugin, does this resolve the issue?

We have instructions on how to install/upgrade the plugin manually at the following link: How to update my free plugin via FTP. You will need an FTP program such as FileZilla and your FTP details, which can be obtained from your host provider.

We installed the plugin as described & reset the indexables, I still get the issue when I try to optimize:

    <div class=”wp-die-message”><p>There has been a critical error on this website.</p><p>Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.</p></div><script defer src=”https://static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js&#8221; data-cf-beacon='{“rayId”:”68b243266de05c62″,”version”:”2021.8.1″,”r”:1,”token”:”27869e02d5e4454ea48dfd419ff59d8f”,”si”:10}’></script>

I can share credentials to the WP via your support channel if you like,

We are sorry to hear that you’re still having trouble with our plugin. Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup. However, we are unable to do it here as this is a public forum.

So, if you have an active Yoast SEO Premium subscription or if you can consider buying one, we can investigate the issue further directly on your setup privately through email.

However, if you don’t wish to get the Yoast SEO Premium subscription, that’s completely fine. In this case, you’ll need to troubleshoot the issue further on your setup as we are literally out of any clue at this moment without taking a look at the setup. So, someone from the community might step forward as well who has experienced or is familiar with the issue.

    Thanks for your understanding!

Hi there, yes I am interested in buying a Yoast SEO Premium subscription to resolve this issue. Can you explain to me how I can have the issue investigated?

    (@mazedulislamkhan)

Thanks for following up with us. Once you have an active premium subscription, just shoot us an email directly at support@yoast.com email address with the current thread link or all the information you have shared with us here so far so that we could forward it to our technical support team where they could look at your setup to find out what’s causing the issue for you.

So I need to buy before I know whether the solution will work or not?
You had mentioned that I could ask this question ” if [I] can consider buying one”. Was that statement wrongly added?

    Hi @cemdilmegani

We apologize for any confusion regarding that statement.

Just to clarify, your issue of the SEO data optimization process failing will require further investigation, which we are unable to do so over these public forums.

Should you decide to purchase a subscription of Yoast SEO Premium, you will be able to receive premium personal support (by emailing us directly at support@yoast.com) and we’ll be able to take a look at your issue there more in-depth. Otherwise, we also have a very lenient 30-day refund policy. So if, at any time, within 30 days from the purchase date, if you are unhappy with the premium plugin (or support), you can avail of a full refund, no questions asked.

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
