 * Hi all,
 * I have been uploading images on to our blog [https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/](https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/)(
   which normally has a high score on Google´s speed test). The moment I put an
   image into one of the posts, however, the page slows down – eg. [https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/general/2017/05/the-2017-snap-election-and-selling-your-property/](https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/general/2017/05/the-2017-snap-election-and-selling-your-property/).
   I then download the recommended image from the Google speed test page and re-
   upload – but the problem I´m seeing is that the image quality is really bad (
   despite the speed now being healthy).
 * I was wondering if there was anyway around this as ideally I would just want
   to upload high definition images (just the once) without any issues affecting
   the speed of the page.
 * Many thanks,
    Ruban

 * Best practice is to upload the size you need.
 * So think about, or check the size your theme and site require.
 * Second thing you do after you have the correct size is optimize it. You ca do
   this by using a plugin that optimizes every image you upload to your site. [Here ](https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/10-best-image-optimization-plugins-to-speed-up-your-wordpress-site/)
   is a list.
 * Or you can optimize [before ](https://kraken.io/web-interface)you upload.
 * Hope this answers your question,

 * Hi Marleen,
 * Thanks for your prompt response. Yes, would be great to optimise the image in
   high definition but it seems I will have to compromise on quality to ensure a
   good level of speed. That´s a shame.
 * Best regards,

 * I dont’t know why you need HD images. What size are the images you uploaded?
 * You can optimize images loose or lossless. This will impact the result dramatically.
   You would need to try to see different methods to see which keeps your images
   the best quality.
 * I haven’t tried the way google reduces images. But there are a lot of different
   tools out there.
 * And google’s speedtool is’t always right. You can choose what to want to do with
   the suggestions.

 * Hi mintinternet – can you please explain what you mean by “loose or lossless”?
 * My designer has compressed the image a bit which has improved the speed somewhat–
   [https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/general/2017/05/the-2017-snap-election-and-selling-your-property/](https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/blog/general/2017/05/the-2017-snap-election-and-selling-your-property/).
   Ideally, I would like the speed to be 99% but maybe I´m just being a perfectionist!
 * Out of interest, what would you say is the best optimisation tool out there?
 * Thanks for your assistance.

 * You can read more about [loos/lossy or lossless](http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/lossless-and-lossy-compression).
   It has to do with the may images are build.
 * If you want it to be quick and online you can use: [https://kraken.io/web-interface](https://kraken.io/web-interface)
 * Otherwise you could check the link I send you in my first message. It depends
   on your own preference.
 * Hope it helps,
