    Hey there,

thank you for providing such an easy going access to most relevant GA statistics.
It is working like a charm.

However, there is one thing that I am not able to get my head around: The OptOut

Whenever I try to add either option outlined in https://exactmetrics.com/google-analytics-gdpr-and-user-data-privacy-compliance/ (link & button), nothing is created. I have tried being logged in and logged out. Nothing seems to work. The link just disappears, and in text editor it only leaves |a| Click here to opt-out of Google Analytics |/a|.

Any recommendations? Happy to share site specifics if necessary.

    Thank you & best regards,
    Buzz

  • Hi Buzz,

Can you please include the following info:

    1. Where have you tried adding this on in WordPress?
    2. Can you please include any relevant screenshots and site specifics.
    3. Have you tried to test for theme or plugin conflicts?

    Thanks!

    Hello Jay,

thank you for your quick reply! 🙂

I have just tried it on a normal page inside the textwidget of VC (Screenshot 1). When updating it changes to what you see in screenshot 2, without href.

After I visit the page as visitor, I see the link but the cursor does not change to the hand symbol as per usual (Screenshot 3). So I am not sure if the Optout is working correctly.

I can only test for conflicts if I know that the link is actually faulty. Is there a way to show confirmation when clicking the “Link” ? Maybe something like: a onclick=”alert(‘Google Analytics wurde deaktiviert’); ?

    Best,
    Buzz

    Hello Buzz,

Certainly! For issues caused by third-party plugins, we typically have to refer the support request to those third-parties. But I believe the following will fix the issue presented by VC/WPBakery.

    1. Please use the Raw HTML widget for the link with the <a ref…

    2. Or you might wish to follow their instructions for shortcode mapping: https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/learning-more/shortcode-mapper/
    https://kb.wpbakery.com/docs/faq/can-i-insert-3rd-party-shortcodes/

If the shortcode isn’t working, is your version of VC/WPBakery up to date? Current is 5.4.7.

Does the issue persist on non-WPBakery pages?

If not, you’d need to request support from their team as this is likely an issue caused by their page builder.

    3. You should be able to right-click the link and click inspect element to make sure the code is still intact in the source code.

Let us know how it goes. 🙂

    Hey Jay,

your input gave me the right Idea. So apparently the link is disabled when you add it inside WPBakery Textblock element using “Backend Editor”.

However, when you switch to classic mode and here you add the a href=”javascript:gaOptout()” – it should be working just fine, even when you switch back to “Editor-Mode”, no need to use RaW HTML or shortcode mapping.

Thank you so much, your help is much appreciated! I will update this to “solved”

PS: To show notification to visitors that click on the Link, add the oneclickalert a onclick=”alert(‘Google Analytics was deactivated’); href=”javascript:gaOptout()” (Don’t forget the < | >)

Hope my answer can be of help!

    Thanks again & best regards,
    Buzz
