  • How can I take an existing theme and open and modify it in Dreamweaver? When I open one in Dreamweaver it does not render the page but instead renders the code.

  • If you don’t get an answer, look here:

As far as i know Dreamweaver can’t render html from php includes, if that is what you’re looking for?

You are looking for a tool like ThemeDreamer for WordPress. Its an extension to Dreamweaver.

What stanwelks is talking about is the ability to open the page and see at least a hint of the design in Dw’s ‘Design View’ -which is a quasibrowser in an ‘edit mode’, it lets you click on design elements and it automatically highlights the related code in a code editor (aka “Split View”).

Try the default Kubrick theme or the Basic Foundation Themes with ThemeDreamer and you should be able to easily roll your own themes. It might work with your existing theme if it adheres to WordPress’s API template tags. It doesn’t have a real PHP interpreter/built in server (yet) so if your theme is non-standard it may not work completely in Dreamweaver. However ThemeDreamer will try its best to provide you with CSS feedback in ‘Design View’ along with code hints and autocompletion in ‘Code View’.
