I’m looking to track how often OpenAI’s
OAI-SearchBotaccesses my WordPress website. This bot visits web content for ChatGPT’s search functionality, and understanding its activity could offer insights similar to “impressions” in traditional SEO metrics.According to OpenAI’s documentation, OAI-SearchBot uses the user-agent string:
Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko); compatible; OAI-SearchBot/1.0; +https://openai.com/searchbotThey also provide a searchbot.json file listing the IP ranges used by this bot.
Questions:
- How can I detect and log server-side requests from OAI-SearchBot on my WordPress website?

I would recommend contacting your host’s support team. They will provide you with log files containing exactly this kind of data.
There are various statistics plugins available for WordPress, but I’m not sure if they also track the user agent in this way. You can ask them about this. You can find examples here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/stats/
