Open Graph Madness! (FB showing wrong titles…)

    Hello there,

    I am rather on the side of helping people out on wordpress but today is my blonde day apparently.

    If someone could explain to me why exactly Facebook is too stupid to read the title of my PAGE or POST and instead of that uses the entry title meaning without the last “| MySite” part. That really f*cks up the branding a bit, doesn´t it? No one knows what site that is when it just says: Home.

    I have the WordPress Seo Plugin (from Yoast) installed and tried to add the Open Graph tags through there, even changed stuff about the title tag like it was recommended on their website but all that didn´t work at all. I changed it back to normal and removed the ‘add open graph meta tags’ from the plugin.

    Even without any Plugins, wordpress doesn´t seem to send the right title to Facebook anymore? What is this? Whoms idea was that? Or is Facebook being the failure here?

    Enlight me, please. It´s driving me nuts.

    By the way, I have no idea where the og: tags in the code now come from. They must be added by WordPress… maybe not the smartest idea either? Is there a way to deactivate these completely so maybe Facebook would pick up on the correct title? (Which would be RIDICULOUS!)

    It doesn’t seem that you have the Yoast plugin installed anymore (which is a bloody must have cracking plugin btw.)
    The title bit is in your theme/header.php file.
    Look for code between <title> and </title> tags and remove | and the variable next to it.
    Paste code here if you can’t work it out yourself.

    Would I go naked on the street? Of course not. I’ve just taken ALL oh tags out of the code and all of a sudden the titles are shared correctly on facebook which, thinking about it now is kind of a shame isn’t it… Anyway. Everyone’s happy with that solution now. Thanks for taking time, that is much appreciated.
