    Unable to open Administration Panel.

I used Fantastico to install WP on my Lunar Pages server. I then went into the File Manager in my cPanel X and found wp-admin folder. However, when I click on it, nothing happens. I was able to open the Dashboard. Is this the same a the Administration Panel? If not, how do I open the Administration Panel? Instead of using Fantastico, do I need to manually install instead. Or maybe I need a plug in to access the Administration Panel?

  • Hi there! 🙂

When you did your installation, you should have received an email confirmation from the WP install that welcomes you to WordPress and has the log in information that you supplied.

It also should have a link to your admin panel and the URL that your WP is on, too.

    Hi, I tried http://example.org/folder_you_installed_wordpress_in/wp-admin/
I got this message: Not Found

The requested URL /folder_you_installed_wordpress_in/wp-admin/ was not found on this server.
    Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at example.org Port 80

I did receive an email confirmation with my user name, password and the following URL: http://wordpress.org/support/

I still am unable to access Admin Panel.

I suspect that Fantastico cannot properly install the WP scripts.
I have Dreamweaver CS5 that supports WordPress. I’ll try a manual installation via the DW FTP.

One more thing. Instead of using the admin panel, I should be able to create my themes and pages in Dreamweaver and upload and over write to the respective WP files. If I do, I will need to hire someone to write the PHP back end. Any ideas?

    Hi, I tried http://example.org/folder_you_installed_wordpress_in/wp-admin/

    http://example.org/folder_you_installed_wordpress_in/wp-admin/ is not literal.

    To break it down:

    http://example.org = your domain name

/folder_you_installed_wordpress_in = the directory that you installed WordPress in.

/wp-admin/ – this is literal, just add it after that last part.

Instead of using the admin panel, I should be able to create my themes and pages in Dreamweaver and upload and over write to the respective WP files.

You can use Dreamweaver to work on theme templates, but WordPress basically does everything else for you.

Thanks, I thought the above link was a tutorial. I followed the breakdown and still nothing. I visited http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and realized that my hosting company, Lunar Pages, was not listed as supporting WP. This is probably why I can’t access the Admin Panel.

Of the four that support WP, Dream Host, Blue Host, Media Temple and Liquid Squid, which do you think is best?

No no no. JUST because a site isn’t listed there does NOT mean you can’t run WordPress on it. 🙂

What is your URL? I bet we can sort this out.

Yeah, you’re right. Lunar Pages does support WP. I installed WP in a sub domain. Currently, the sub domain is pointing at another website. This is temporary until I build the WP site. I have this on burningman3d.com, a sub domain of indieranch.com

I think the problem is that I may have confused the Admin Panel with the Dashboard. When I go to: http://burningman3d.com/wp-admin/
I get a log in page that takes me to Dashboard page. The directions were not clear so I’m assuming the Admin Panel and Dashboard are the same, right?

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, Admin Panel and WordPress dashboard are the same thing.

Mystery solved! Thanks for the help!

I have a similar problem and know one of you can help me. I just started my blog yesterday and worked all day on it. This morning I clicked “log out as admin” and now I can’t log back into the administrator panel in order to update my blog. Any ideas??
