Am I understand correctly, that I cannot upload a theme to the repository which has other language than English, and it is translation-ready?

  • You can use any language for text but it should be same for all strings.
    See: https://make.wordpress.org/themes/handbook/review/required/#language

Can use any language for text, but only use the same one for all text.

Currently, themes that don’t default to English are not perfectly well supported, especially if it has non-ascii characters for the Theme Name. We don’t prohibit it, but you may run into problems. We haven’t fully worked all the kinks out yet.

English as the default language is recommended for the time being.

I wanted to upload my theme. It faild in the automatic scan, in spite of the fact, that there was no error, only “warnings” and “recommended” and “info”.
All “info” is about one things : “non printable characters”. Hungarian letters are ascii charaters. Theme files coded in UTF8. Consequently these are printable characters.

My question: I do not want to translate my theme, but I would like to upload to repository. How can I change my theme to pass this automatic check?

An INFO is not a failure. It’s just INFO. Just a sanity check, to make sure everything is on the up and up. Look for the actual failures. The ones that aren’t blue or green.

And run the Theme Check plugin yourself, before you upload. Theme Check runs the same checks w.org does. It will let you test before uploading.

I had warnings because of 3 tags: accessible, WCAG compliant and tested with screen readers.
Why I had to remove them? These are the most significant features of my theme.
When I get out these tags, my theme passed the check.

The set of tags for themes is a fixed set. You can’t use arbitrary tags, only the ones listed in the feature-filter will be allowed.

Can you tell me the list of allowed tags? Google has not found.

https://wordpress.org/themes <- Look at the “Feature Filter”. That’s the set of allowed tags.

You can also find them in WordPress itself. Look in /wp-admin/includes/theme.php, starting around line 197, in the get_theme_feature_list() function.
