You state that the only updates to this Legacy version will be for security reasons.

What if Google changes their API? Will this still be supported, or is it your plan to retire this plugin if that happens?

My reason for asking is that I updated to the new Simple Calendar and the result was horrific!!! NEVER, I mean NEVER force an update of this magnitude on anyone via a simple “update” this plugin. The new Simple Calendar SHOULD have been an entirely separate, entirely new plugin. You could have posted a message about moving to this new plugin. I’m considering looking for an entirely different plugin and to avoid EVERYTHING associated with any of the current developers or business that has done this!!! Very unhappy right now!

I am trying to take the path of least resistance right now, by moving back to the old version, although I also want to avoid this old version failing due to Google API updates, or you deciding to end support.

You can search for my posts in your new Simple Calendar plugin regarding the issues I’m having with it. It will also be getting a 1* rating.

We hear your frustration and apologize, as it was not intentional. Please read this post we posted a little while back for a better explanation:

    https://simplecalendar.io/blog/google-calendar-events-backwards-compatibility-update/

In summary, we did post messages, send emails, had a beta testing period, etc. But obviously it wasn’t sufficient.

As for Google and the point they deprecate the current/v3 version of their Calendar API, yes it may happen at some point, at which no, we will not update this plugin. Could be a year or two, maybe longer.

As for the last API deprecation (v2) in November 2014, this plugin, if left alone back then, would’ve completely broke anyway. Which is the main reason fro the major updates at that point.

There are also several calendar plugins out there that store events in within WordPress itself, not with Google, if you’d like that sort of control.

Finally, with the new version we’re doing our best to fix as many issues affecting users as possible as fast as possible.
