I’ve been using Akismet forever, and Bad Behavior since the beginning of the year. Lately I’ve been getting a notification or two per day that a (spam) comment is awaiting approval. It’s always on the SAME blog entry. I mark it as spam, of course.
I suppose that entry could be the one that spammers are targeting, but I have assumed that spam comments to OTHER posts are being blocked and the post itself is somehow (?) more vulnerable and that Akismet/BB are ignoring it.
I don’t have any proof of this, but it seems “weird” and I’m wondering what the deal is. I don’t want to delete the post as it’s an important part of my archive, but still…what’s going on do you think?
Actually I’ve seen the same thing on my WPMu install when I blocked a Russian IP address and then later the entire Class C. They were focused on about 8 specific posts out of thousands and hitting only those again and again. A quick check of the logs showed they were only accessing those 8 posts and nothing else.
Remember, we’re talking about spammers here. Not rocket scientists. 😉
