 * I was reading on this form about a new user who was soooo frustrated with trying
   to get his theme and WordPress to work, after having spent 2 hrs. working on
   it. I have worked on my setup for 2 wks. (10+ hrs.), I should shoot myself. I
   have yet to see the ease of use of WordPress- the advertising promises!
    I am
   looking at my hosts cPanel and file structure. The host suggested using ‘public_html’
   as a place to store WordPress. I am in root of ‘public_html’ and see assorted
   folders and files and ‘wp-admin, -content and -includes’ along with all the other‘
   wp-‘ files. I have chg’d. ‘wp-config-sample.php’ to ‘wp-config.php’ and made
   a DB using MySQ Wizard and made DB info changes in the config file. I go to the‘
   wp-content’ folder down to ‘themes’. There I see ‘mercury’ (my theme mercury),‘
   twentyten’ and ‘index.php’. I go into ‘mercury’ and see 5 folders and another
   folder ‘themes’. Go into ‘themes’ and see ‘mercury’ that has all theme files.
   Does this sound correct so far?
 * I go to URL and add ‘/wp-admin/install.php’ and get a blank white screen. Go
   to URL add /wp-login.php’ and again blank white screen.
 * What am I doing incorrectly? This is my last time asking for help!

 * Did you upload mercury as that is not installed with wordpress and looks like
   that theme is not in the right place.
 * Did you have wordpress installed working before you added mercury theme.

 * The mercury that in themes folder that in mercury is the one needs to be in

   wp-content/themes
 * As is you have
    wp-content/themes/mercury/themes/mercury

 * govatel,
 * The way it is now in wp-content/themes/mercury, there are 5 folders-documentation,
   License, plugins, themes, psds, and 1 file logo_mm.psd. When you go to wp-content/
   themes/mercury/themes/mercury there are 7 additional folders-admin, config_files,
   jquery.fancybox-1.3.4, js, styles, types, images and 24 files.
 * Question 1: I uploaded the theme mercury into the wordpress /themes folder as
   stated above.
 * Question 2: I did not have wordpress working at any time, only blank white screen.
 * Do you think I should move the last mercury folders and files into the wp-content/
   themes/mercury containing the 5 folders listed above, to combine all the folders
   and files?

 * You need to switch to default twenty theme by renaming mercury folder that is
   in wp-content/themes folder to see if wordpress is working
 * > The way it is now in wp-content/themes/mercury, there are 5 folders-documentation,
   > License, plugins, themes, psds,
 * The content of plugins folder need to be wp-content/plugins
    content of themes
   folder needs to in wp-content/thems folder the other 3 are you not used you can
   take them and save them onyour computer if you want. open documentation file
   you will find instructions there.

 * govpatel.
 * How do you

 * ?
 * I did go into /themes and rename mercury to default. Ran /wp-admin/install.php-
   no change.
 * When I go to cPanel DB info, I see 0.00MB for size of DB.

 * govpatel,
 * I deleted my theme from the /theme folder. I deleted my existing DB and using
   the DB wizard to make a new DB.
 * My intention is to work on the wordpress side. Without making any revisions to
   wordpress, except the DB info in config.php, I will /wp-admin/install.php and
   hope that wordpress will work using the twentyten default theme.
 * What are your feelings about that?

 * Hey mlapage!
 * First of all! download the latest wordpress from it’s repository!
    extract the
   zip and FTP INTO the public_html now when you just type the domain name you will
   be landed to the Installation screen.. you don’t need to manually enter the DB
   infos into the config file..

 * johnibom,
 * I did that and I guess I expect something to be displayed. Nothing happened.
 * When you wrote
 * > now when you just type the domain name you will be landed to the Installation
   > screen..

 * johibom,

   folder (renamed wrdpress) to public_html on my host site.
 * The URL (my site): [http://www.mimirbooks.com/](http://www.mimirbooks.com/)
 * I have done nothing else. I have note deleted the DB.
 * That’s it. Thanks

 * Why did you rename wordpress to public_html
 * As is when I click on your url I see the index of all files and folder so that
   must be your public_html root folder and has wordpress folder but spelling is
   wrong that is why you can not install wordpress
    /wrdpress/
 * [http://www.mimirbooks.com/wrdpress](http://www.mimirbooks.com/wrdpress)
 * opens the install program
 * rename that wordpress if you want and then run install program to install in
   folder
 * You have some other folder in public_html I do not know what they are and you
   do not have have any index file in root that is whay I can see your index.

 * I changed spelling to wordpress for title of folder. Went to URL and selected
   wordpress and get message no wp-config.php file found. Would I like to create
   a configuration file-yes I would. I enter my DB info to the appropriate boxes
   and select to continue and get:
 * Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username
   and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t
   contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database
   server is down.
 * •Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    •Are you sure that
   you have typed the correct hostname? •Are you sure that the database server is
   running? If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your
   host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
 * The DB info is correct, have checked DB setup.
 * I have contacte host support for help.
 * Stuck again!
