  • When I change the setting of a page to use “One column, no sidebar” that part works fine only it still uses the width of the left column for the whole area, ie: the column is not filling the page.

Then I searched this forum for a solution which was…

` adding this to style.css of the theme might do:
    .one-column #content { margin:0; width:100%; }`

    I’m using a standard theme (Twenty-eleven) and am dumbfounded…

Shouldn’t this already be in the default style sheets?

Apparently that CCS parameter is in the default style.css but it’s set to 640 px.

It should be set to 100% as the default because most users will want a full page width if they do select one column.

it is always debatable how a default theme’s layout is designed.

luckily, css is editable, so you can adapt the layout to your needs.
