• Hello, I noticed the thumbnails for the playlists do not change when adding new videos to the playlist. I even tried to go into youtube and set a video as a thumbnail for the playlist manually and it still doesn’t change.

I have tried clearing the yt lyte cache and turning off the siteground cache.
Also tried removing the playlist ID and adding it back again but it still shows the old thumbnail.

FYI: It was a while since I worked on this page and I had to reset my api because it went inactive. Not sure if it could be related. The api works now which fixed some playlists that were showing no playlist at all but still not updating the thumbnail.

    Thank you,

    Alex

BTW I am using the short codes to display and currently checked no to caching the thumbnails locally. I tried yes to cache thumbnails locally but it still did not update the thumbnail.

LYTE uses the thumbnail ID returned by the YouTube API or1g1na1, if that does not change (for reasons I don’t know), then LYTE won’t change thumbnail either when clearing the LYTE cache.

    Thank you for the reply.

It is strange because on youtube the thumbnails are different.
Does it update only every x days? Or does it have to be a certain ammount of requests before it updates?

I realize the youtube api is out of your control but I wanted to ask regarding your experience working with this plugin. Is this typical behavior for playlist thumbnails?

Just trying to figure out if there is something I can change on my end.

    Thanks again,
    Alex

I have no idea I’m afraid, I don’t have extensive playlist management experience and have not studied impact on thumbnails being used, sorry.

I am having the same issue — however, if I reset the Lyte cache, the new video shows in the playlist. Annoying having to reset the Lyte cache every time I add a new video to the YouTube playlist though.

that indeed is it reedy, should have thought about this myself. lyte indeed caches the youtube response in a local cache, to avoid hammering the youtube api and slowing page response down. clearing the cache indeed forces lyte to re-fetch the youtube response and will update the playtlist thumbnail.

Clearing cache not working for me…

Site does not have many visitors, not sure if that could be the issue.

Maybe try the trick at https://blog.futtta.be/2015/04/27/how-to-see-wp-youtube-lytes-cache-for-a-post/ to see and delete the LYTE cache for a specific post?

I wish I could just use YouTube’s iframe code on this page rather than having to refresh the Lyte cache every time I upload a new video to the playlist. Any plans to offer this as an option, or at least offer the option either to disable the caching of thumbnails or set a cache expiry time?

I’m not sure I understand (apart from cache expiry time) reedy, can you explain what option that would be?

    reedy

    (@reedy)

    Sure!

I would love to be able to paste in the iframe code from YouTube on some pages and use the Lyte shortcode on other pages.

When I use the iframe code, there are no caching issues — but because of a recent Lyte update I can no longer use the iframe code.

Another option could be a checkmark on the post page that says something like “disable lyte cache on this page”.

I hope this helps. This issue is very frustrating!

And what happens if you untick the “Also act on normal YouTube links and iframes?” option?

    reedy

    (@reedy)

Not sure what you mean by the question here — all I am suggesting is an option to disable the plugin on certain pages so I can use the iframe code and avoid the caching issues. I hope this makes things a bit clearer!

    well, you wrote;

I would love to be able to paste in the iframe code from YouTube on some pages and use the Lyte shortcode on other pages.

So if you do that and then untick the “Also act on normal YouTube links and iframes?”-option, your iframes should remain iframes but your shortcodes would be LYTE?
