After I installed Wordfence and turned on Falcon caching, every image associated with a link turns into a big red box when it is selected.

I have uninstalled Wordfence and restored .htaccess, but it is still happening.

Is there a list of files that Wordfence changes so I can put them back to the same state they were before install?

I am running WordPress on Ubuntu 14.04

Thanks for any help or guidance you can give.

  • Wordfence doesn’t change any files. We add code to your htaccess file, which you can and should remove after deactivating. Try that and see if it fixes things.

Like I already stated, I restored my htaccess and this is still happening. (Not to be nit-picky, but adding code to .htaccess requires changing the file. It is acting like there is something that was changed that was not put back to the original state after I uninstalled.

My entire site is https, so I am guessing it has to do with how it handles the rewrite for the caching and the browser thinking it is unsecure content. BUT there are no errors or warnings anywhere.

I like the product and have had good luck with it until now.

My point was we didn’t change your image files or locations of them. The point about checking the htaccess file is because on occasion when something modifies the htaccess file it can leave out the first few characters, etc. I’m more paranoid and edit mine manually so I always know whats there.

If the site is still having issues after deleting Wordfence then it doesn’t sound like us. You might check and make sure the wfCache directory has been removed to make sure nothing is served out of it.

I’m assuming, since you mention no errors on the site, that you have enabled the javaScript console on the pages with the missing images to make sure something isn’t showing there either.

    I’m still researching.

I always do a complete backup of the server and site before I add any plugins.

I restored the site and server with the backup I made immediately before installing wordfence and it is fine now.

The issue started only after I turned the caching on, so it is related to Wordfence.

I am still going to use Wordfence, but use another product for caching.
