    Hi there –

I’m sorry you’re having a trouble getting your backups to work.

It’s frustrating, I know. Unfortunately this can be caused by a number of different issues, so let’s start with some basic troubleshooting, okay?

Try following some of these tips to see if we can help isolate the issue you’re having:

    • can you run a database-only backup?
    • how about a files-only backup? (create a new schedule if you don’t want to edit a current one)
    • If not, try to exclude your /wp-content/uploads folder, then run a manual backup. Does this work? If so, we know the size of your backup is probably hanging up your server.
    • If you can, try disabling all other plugins, and switch to a default theme if possible as plugin conflicts can occur. Does that help?

Let me know what you find out and we can troubleshoot from there,

Thanks for your help and sorry again for the trouble you’re having!

Dear Kat! Thank you for your reply.

    Here some answer:

can you run a database-only backup?
    (already tried) Yes, it works

how about a files-only backup? (create a new schedule if you don’t want to edit a current one)
(already tried) No, it don’t works.

If not, try to exclude your /wp-content/uploads folder, then run a manual backup. Does this work?
I guess the issue is about the size of this folder because we are using your plugin in several themes. And it works properly were the contents are not that much. However, if it helps to you, with other plugins it works (in private I can tell you which one). The problem is that the others plugins don’t make the scheduled bu. Your one does it. That’s why I would like to solve with you.

If so, we know the size of your backup is probably hanging up your server.
    Yeah: look the previous answer.

If you can, try disabling all other plugins, and switch to a default theme if possible as plugin conflicts can occur. Does that help?
It don’t matter. Because in other themes on the same server it works properly with all the plugins on. So the point is just about the size of the contents…

    Thank you for your attention.
    Have a great day

    Hey there –

So, sometimes on shared hosts with some CPU or other limits, a larger backup like this is much more likely to fail. As a result we’re left with a couple options – change the limitations on the server (which isn’t always possible) or break the backup into multiple smaller backups by utilizing the Exclusions functionality.

You already know how to use the “Excludes” functionality since you tested it before. What we’re going to do is use 2-3 files-only backups to backup the files by drilling down to larger subdirectories, like wp-content/uploads/YEAR … some years might be larger than others. So exclude files/years until you are able to backup successfully.

Work with a new schedule to exclude everything BUT what you didn’t backup in the other schedule. You might have to create more than a couple separate files-only backups to accomplish it, but you will end up with the equivalent of a full backup, just split between multiple backup schedules. This will reduce the load on your server and should allow you to keep them going.

If you need help with this you can enable support and I can walk you through more specifics. You can follow this guide on how to do so: https://bwp.hmn.md/support-center/enable-support

    Good luck!

    Dear Kat!
    Thank you for your reply.

I would like to underline that, in the same websites on the same server, the full backup (DB+files) or just the files bu, with another plugin it works properly. So it’s not a matter or limit on the server or other stuff: there is some issue with your plugin.

If you like I could text you as private message which one is (the other plugin) so you might discover the trouble with that.

We would like to fix this issue with you because the main point of your plugin is that it makes scheduled bu.

For any further details I’m available

Would it be possible for you to reach out to us through our dedicated BackUpWordPress Support channel by enabling support?

You can follow this guide on how to do so: https://bwp.hmn.md/support-center/enable-support

After you enable the support module, just make sure to actually click the support button again to send a message to me refreshing me about your issue.

If you could do this, it would help me see what’s on your server and more information on your site as well.

    Thanks,
    Kat
