Old WordPress core file not removed during update

    Hi,

    I got an email from Wordfence today notifying me the below low severity problems:

    * Old WordPress core file not removed during update: wp-includes/blocks/block/editor-rtl.css

    * Old WordPress core file not removed during update: wp-includes/blocks/block/editor-rtl.min.css

    * Old WordPress core file not removed during update: wp-includes/blocks/block/editor.css

    * Old WordPress core file not removed during update: wp-includes/blocks/block/editor.min.css

    Assuming it was because I updated my wordpress version last night. Should I be concerned? Should the files be removed during update?

    Hi @amiya1672,

    Thank you for reaching out. In WordPress 6.6, these files were not flagged for removal as they should have been. WordPress is aware of the issue and will remove them in the next release. You can find more details on that here: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/61665

    In the meantime, you can exclude it from future scan results in Wordfence > Scan by selecting Ignore > Ignore Until File Changes next to the result.  This will ignore the file until further modifications are detected, such as when the files are removed in the next WordPress update.

    Thanks Margaret.

    If I exclude the files from setting, would the change be revoked once modifications are detected? I’m just a bit worried that I change the setting and forget to change it back.

    Hi @amiya1672,

    That’s correct. If you use Ignore > Ignore Until File Changes, then once the file is modified, it won’t be ignored in the scan results anymore.

    If you’d prefer to not ignore the files, it should be safe to remove them manually as well, since they are no longer used in WordPress 6.6.0.

    Recommend closing this topic as “Resolved.” Team WordPress has implemented a solution (as shared above by @wfmargaret). Soon, the Wordfence scan will not echo the above finding.
