Old WordPress – compatible with current theme?

    Hi there

    I met someone who has a WP theme, but their version of WP is old.
    It needs updating badly. Even Jetpack won’t work with it!

    Trouble is, I’m relucant to say “update it” as I don’t want their theme to break.

    So is there some golden rule that a version of WordPress (I think it was done in 2014), won’t break the theme if it’s upgraded to the latest versino of wordpress, or should it be done in a demo environment first?
