• I am redesigning a Word Press site and will be using a new hosting provider. The site owner wants to keep his original Word Press site up while we work on the new one.

I thought we could do one of two things.
1 – Leave the old site where it is and work on the new site on the new host. When done, change the DNS at GoDaddy to the new site.
2 – Load the old site and create the new site in a folder on the new host.

Why is my new host telling me this isn’t possible? I need to get this started ASAP so any help I can get will be much appreciated!!!
    Thanks

  • What does the new host say exactly, what is their explanation for it not being possible?

I don’t understand it. Is it possible? And how do we do it? That’s all I need to know.

I do not see a problem with option 2, if the new wordpress site has its own individual folder not associated with the old one then it should be fine.

Does the web host allow you to create more then one MySQL database? I imagine you would want the new site to use its own database during development as to not interfere with the live site. If the web host does not allow for multiple MySQL databases, then that could be a problem.

You might consider installing a xampp server and developing the new site locally on your computer to avoid issues with the web host.
