Old root site, replace with new /sub-direcotry site?

    We have WPMU installed on LAMP server, with the old web site installed in the root, and other sites installed under sub-directories.

    example.com – original old site
    example.com/new – newly developed site

    We want to make

    example.com – new developed site

    and just delete old site from the root.

    Is this possible? If so, what are the steps needed to move a new site into the root, and to remove the old site from the root?
