Old fixes for Oxygen won't help solve slider problem

Hi,

I’ve visited older threads about what seems a common problem with the Oxygen theme, which is difficulty in setting up the theme as it looks in the demo version (slider: big picture up front, a row of smaller pix below it).

Old threads talk about an option of “location” that you use to placing picture in the slider but this option is not to be found in screen options. They also talk about “front page” option when publishing a page, but I don’t have this option, either – only something called “showcase page”. When I tried publishing a page in showcase page – I got nothing, niether text nor picture.

So, i’m looking for current answers to the problem of: how to put a slider o the front page of an Oxygene-themed website? I’m a newbie to WordPress and would greatly appreciate a walk-thru for dummies.
