  • (Preface: I’m a css/design geek, not a php/sql/code geek)
OK, I’ve spent about 3 days going through thread after thread, trying to figure out how to get my 3 year old 3.9mg blog xml file into wordpress on my hosted domain.

I’ve tried splitting it with FileSplitter. laptop crashed in the middle and made an unholy mess. scratch that. Looked for instructions to manually split, but have found none that make any sense to me.

I’ve tried changing the .htaccess file. No good.

I have no access to the php.ini file. Again, no good.

The guy who runs my server offered to upload the xml file to a folder on the server. So there it sits, and me without a clue how to direct the WordPress installation to find it and use it.

Any help would be gratefully. Glasses of fine ale will be raised in your name. I’d even name one of my cat’s kittens after you.

    TIA

Answering myself but I found the solution.

download 7-zip. convert it to a .gz file. import. then move on to the next set of problems and issues and tweaking.

    yippee
