Host PDFs & make them searchable

Hello,

I really want to achieve something I am struggling a little bit to articulate.

I will be hosting PDFs on my website that will be updated frequently and that users need to be able to search for.

Does anyone have any idea how I might achieve this?

I think I would need to tag them. Perhaps break up a page and tag parts/areas of a page, but how could I achieve this.

Is there a plugin for this? Is there a plugin that would have a search box or a drop down menu/search box that would allow users to search a couple of criteria or even just one criteria.

One idea I’ve had is to create them as a post and place an excerpt on a page with a link to the PDF but I’m not sure how to get a search box on the page too.
