I’m looking for an offline editor for Windows that recognizes WordPress shortcode syntax and can do tag matching, indentation and error highlighting at a minimum, and preferably auto-complete and collapsing code blocks. This is mainly for editing pages and parts of the theme. If this question has been answered before I apologize in advance, I did do some searches, perhaps not using the right terminology?
I currently use Notepad++ and did some searching for a custom “language” for Notepad++ with little luck, but I’m open to other tools. One of the reasons I’m looking for an offline editor is that once you paste / edit the code within the web admin interface, you lose any indentation you had and it does not point out some errors with mis-matched tags, and I’m looking to store a cache of pages offline.
Some background – I’m currently working on our company website using WordPress 3.4 and a commercial theme (that’s editable). I have plenty of experience with web technologies, but mainly from a HTML5/JS/JQuery/ASP.NET perspective, and I’m still learning about WordPress and PHP. I used PHP several years ago, so it’s not completely foreign to me as a developer – this is my first post, thanks for your help in advance.
