Since Google has officially extended the length of meta descriptions from 160 to 320 char, is All in One SEO plugin going to have any update soon concerning that matter?

    Thank you,
    Dario

  • I am not a representative of All in One SEO, but what I have seen from watching their Github conversations is that support for longer meta descriptions is in the works. However, you must understand that just because 320 character descriptions are confirmed does not mean that Google will pull your entire meta description for the page. It may decided to combine part of your meta description with page content. There are blog posts from various SEO analysts who confirm that even if they add 320 characters, their descriptions are sometimes a combination of meta value and page content. There’s also a reference on Twitter from a Google Engineer who alludes to this, as well. So, don’t got completely changing all your descriptions just yet to 320. Be judicious and do some testing first to see what Google pulls for a page or post, because if you start changing all your meta descriptions, you may not get the indended result. Get a feel for what you’re seeing in a SERP and from that you’ll know what to change and where.

This is coming very soon, although keep in mind this only applies to the meta descriptions.
Google is increasingly generating their own descriptions, which will be up to 320 anyway.

Hmmm. Very soon?? Let’s see. This was almost a 1/2 a year ago and still no change. It’s just a bit disturbing when I see all the meta title and description counts are in RED!

Sorry you’re disturbed. This did happen very soon. Then once Google reversed the change, we changed it back as WELL!
