Support » Plugin: TinyMCE Advanced » oEmbed Not Working

  • Hi, we’re noticing that if we try to use the default WP oEmbed method to add videos (from YouTube/Vimeo) to a page, TinyMCE Advanced seems to break this behavior somehow and only the text of the link shows up instead of the actual video. We’re just adding the link text on it’s own line, no manual formatting added.

We prefer using oEmbed over a shortcode plugin as it’s easier for the client, uses built-in WP functionality and is just cleaner to edit overall.

Upon further investigation, it appears that enabling the “Stop removing <p> and
tags when saving and show them in the HTML editor” option for TinyMCE Advanced is what causes it to not work. When that is checked, the videos are not embedded on the page. When it is UN-checked, the videos show up as expected.

    – We definitely prefer to use the ‘Stop removing…’ option, however, so wondering if anything could be done to get both to work in harmony?

    – We also use ‘TinyMCE Config’. Could any options here possibly help ‘override’ things?

Yes, when the “Stop removing…” option is selected the post content is saved including all P tags. The default code in WordPress looks only at URLs that are on a separate line and are not wrapped in P.

Will try to make this work in the next version.

    Any word on this?

Added this to the development version (only changed file is tinymce-advanced.php).

Did some testing and all runs well, but do more testing before using it.
