    Website- http://http://www.principledpolicy.com

    Using WordPress ver. 3.8

I am trying to update a post on this website by changing it from an “Announcement” to a “Normal” Posting. When I press the “Update” button I wait a few seconds then get a message saying “Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case.” near the top of the edit page.

MUCH later I get a “504 Gateway Timeout Error” with “nginx” in smaller letters underneath the Gateway Timeout error message. This has been going on for several days. My “host” (Webhost4Life which is AWFUL) keeps telling me it’s my issue but a 504 Gateway Error is a server error, if I understand things correctly.

Any ideas what the issue might be?

  • Have you asked your hosts about this?

Yes. No satisfactory answer. I get what I ALWAYS get from them. “It works fine here. We can’t find a problem”

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Deleted a slew of old deactivated plugins and voila! Back to working.
