    I have an infuriating problem which I thought your plugin would solve. It appears to do sometimes, but not always.

    As requested

    URL –
    Debug mode is on –

    Problem – Facebook doesn’t pick up anything from my website…….sometimes. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes nothing.

    When I share a URL onto the facebook page I have created it either picks up everything, or nothing.

    When I run the debugger on shared pages that do not show images/desc/or text I tend to get the following messages.

    i) Bad Response Code: URL returned a bad HTTP response code.
    ii) Missing Required Property: The ‘og:type’ property is required, but not present.
    iii) Inferred Property: The ‘og:url’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
    iv) Inferred Property: The ‘og:title’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
    v) Response Code: 503

    When I click on the “Scraped” URL I get a blank page saying “Document returned no data”

    When I click the debug button I get a pageful of info which amongst the info appears to show the missing info/og:tags are actually present.

    I have read other posts/forums talking about plugin conflicts so amongst other things I have tried:

    Changed my SEO plugin from Yoasts back to Michael Torberts All-In-One as i read sometimes unchecking his Open Graph tag box didn’t actually do this, resulting in duplicate og:tags.

    Deactivated every other plugin on my site except Nextgen & NGFB+ whilst “sharing”

    Uploaded duplicate Featured Images into the Media Gallery instead of solely using NextGen

    Got rid of the other social buttons plugin I used, to revert to the ones in NGFB’s plugin.

    I’ve even tried sharing posts only in the morning as my webhost is in the US as I believe a 503 code is server based and might be traffic based (clutching at straws, I know).

    I’ve communicated to the theme creator who say it’s not them.
    I’ve spoke to my host. They say it’s not them.

    Any ideas?

    lol. Yeah, I can imagine the frustration. I checked your page etc. and everything looks fine. The Facebook debugger does indeed pickup a 503 on occasion, and this would be why some posts on Facebook are missing information. 503 is probably either the web server is refusing a connection, or PHP is taking too long to answer. It *could* be plugin related, but with everything you tried, I doubt it.

    Here’s what you can do… Add the following to your wp-config.php file:

    define('WP_DEBUG', true);
    if ( defined('WP_DEBUG') && WP_DEBUG == true ) {
        define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);
        define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);

    Then run a page through the Facebook debugger until you hit a 503. Look at the wp-content/debug.log file for any errors at that moment. If there are none, then I’d wager it’s a hosting issue. To be sure though, you’d have to disable ALL plugins, and make sure Facebook is still getting 503s on occasion.

    Almost, but no cigar. <bangs head quietly on desk>

    I inserted the code as suggested and went to share a couple of page to see if it worked. – worked fine – This worked fine too. – Didn’t!!!

    These pages were built within an hour of each in exactly the same way, published within about 15 minutes of each other and then shared within 5 minutes of each other, and the 3rd share didn’t extract any info from the page (no picture, no text, no desc).

    I’ve checked the debug files on each and they all appear to be the same. The same error messages listed above come up, but facebook will extract information from 2, but not the 3rd.

    Any ideas, I’m lost?

    Well, if there’s nothing in the debug.log, then it’s almost certain that it’s not a plugin. The only exception might be if a plugin is taking a really long time to respond, which might create a time out, but not an error. To be sure, you would have to disable every single plugin and see if Facebook still times-out for 503s.

    Next place to investigate might be the web server (aka apache httpd) logs to see if the web server actually receives a connection from Facebook. If it doesn’t, then it might be network related (routing issues, for example). Traffic on the internet does not always take take the same route – perhaps one possible route is broken.

    I’m going to close this issue since it doesn’t apply to the NGFB Open Graph+ plugin, but feel free to post follow up questions, and I’ll try to help as best I can. 😉
