Occasional (500) Internal Server Error

  • Every few page loads a (500) Internal Server Error occurs. I am on a shared hosting server with GoDaddy.

    My website is http://onemillionby30.com/

Here is a short error log:

[Sat Mar 6 16:48:21 2010] [error] [client #########] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/var/chroot/home/content/p/a/t/MYNAME/html-x-httpd-php5"
[Sat Mar 6 16:48:27 2010] [error] [client #########] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/var/chroot/home/content/p/a/t/MYNAME/html-x-httpd-php5" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (60 sec)
[Sat Mar 6 16:48:27 2010] [error] [client #########]FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/var/chroot/home/content/p/a/t/MYNAME/html-x-httpd-php5"
[Sat Mar 6 16:48:32 2010] [error] [client #########] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/var/chroot/home/content/p/a/t/MYNAME/html-x-httpd-php5" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (60 sec)

I edited the number to ######### and a part of the string to MYNAME, frankly because I don’t know what they are and they seem like I shouldn’t be sharing them. Please help with this, thank you.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

Wasn’t the plugins, I’m going to try the theme thing, thanks!

It happens on the default theme also.

Fixed it, I dunno why this worked, but here is the link to the instructions on how to fix it:

    Site url?

FastCGI does not appear to even be an option for PHP on Godaddy anymore. It is running without FastCGI and I am still getting intermittent errors.

Internal server errors can happen for a variety of reasons and are usually described in detail in the server error log.

If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, and immediately check the server error log for anything useful.

If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

Probably means your web host is slow. I recommend you get a VPS where you can monitor things more carefully.

It has nothing to do with the speed of the server. A VPS is a huge investment, especially for something that is probably being caused by a plugin conflict or a server misconfiguration.
