Obtaining Content

  • This is probably a very basic question, for everyone but me. I’m just starting my first blog and I’m concerned about the rules, ethics and courtesies that govern obtaining content. While I will certainly write some of my own articles and provide as much original content as possible, how do I post articles that belong to others? Can I even do that? Should I get permission first? Is there any particular way I’m supposed to give credit? I’m sorry to ask such a seemingly simple question but I never want to be seen as “stealing” another person’s work and I have yet to find any guidelines on this subject. Maybe there’s already an article on this and I just haven’t found it. If so please just point me in the right direction.

  • Basically, don’t copy in full and claim it’s yours. Check the copyright info (if any) on the source site and see if they have special requests.

If you post excerpts (like quoting a couple paragraphs) and link back to the main blog site, that’s seen as both good faith AND it can help improve your traffic (with ping backs and such).

Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.
