Obtaining Content (3 posts)

This is probably a very basic question, for everyone but me. I'm just starting my first blog and I'm concerned about the rules, ethics and courtesies that govern obtaining content. While I will certainly write some of my own articles and provide as much original content as possible, how do I post articles that belong to others? Can I even do that? Should I get permission first? Is there any particular way I'm supposed to give credit? I'm sorry to ask such a seemingly simple question but I never want to be seen as "stealing" another person's work and I have yet to find any guidelines on this subject. Maybe there's already an article on this and I just haven't found it. If so please just point me in the right direction.

  2. Basically, don't copy in full and claim it's yours. Check the copyright info (if any) on the source site and see if they have special requests.

If you post excerpts (like quoting a couple paragraphs) and link back to the main blog site, that's seen as both good faith AND it can help improve your traffic (with ping backs and such).
