# Numeric Permalink

 * the common setting for numeric permalink is
    [http://www.mysite.com/archives/123](http://www.mysite.com/archives/123)
 * my question is can i remove the archives word and only use /%post_id%
    [http://www.mysite.com/123](http://www.mysite.com/123)
 * why do we need an archives word in the permalink?
    if i remove it will it cause
   any error in the future?

 * I think you did not thoroughly read the two links. Did you try the custom permalink
   structure?

 * What happened when you followed that link and changed your default setting to
   exclude the `/archives/` portion? Also do think you can post a link to the site
   in question? The site in your user profile is not displaying links like that.
