Numbering Comments on a Blog Post

  • I have a WordPress blog that I use the “Modest” Theme from Elegant Themes. On my blog, I do Giveaways where the post comments can add up to a large amount and having to manually count each comment to ascertain the winner is not efficient.

I have spent a large amount of time and effort researching this forum and searching on the web for tutorials, hacks, plugins to install a system to count and show the number beside each comment. Here is an example of how I want my comments to be numbered: http://www.everythingetsy.com/advertise-on-everything-etsy/

All of the methods to change the code in the comments.php sectioni have not worked so far. Does anyone have a foolproof code that works on the Modest Theme from Elegant Themes.

If you need any additional information so that you can help me with a solution, please let me know and I will supply it.

    Thanks

  • Thank you for your response. Clicked on link and looked at code. Still don’t see how this code will display the “numbering sequentially” of all comments – from 1,2,3,4,5, etc. right next to the comment.

Am I missing something here ????

some themes have a callback function for wp_list_comments() in comments.php, which makes the code accessible to add numbering.

best to ask the theme seller, as you are working with a commercial theme.

there is not much this forum can help you with, as commercial themes do not allow free access to all the theme files.

Thanks for the update. Have checked with the commercial theme previously, will check again, maybe I missed something.
